Iurie Turcanu was included among the 100 Most Influential People in Digital Government 2019 in Apolitical’s second annual list, alongside Francesca Bria, Audrey Tang and Siim Sikkut, a formidable variety of international change-makers driving digital transformation in government and seeks to shine a light on the important work of both high-profile innovators and those toiling behind the scenes of this digital revolution.

100 Most Influential People in Digital Government 2019 was selected based on a number of factors, such as: the power and potential to affect change at a national or international level, including by virtue of their position or mandate, past achievements in the digital government arena, including research and activity which might have progressed awareness and knowledge about digital government, national and international perception of the nominee’s influence or potential to influence digital government, significant speaking engagements as an indicator of profile in the field etc.

The list was created from 500 nominations from national governments, universities such as Oxford and Harvard, and international organizations including the UN, OECD, Public Digital and the IADB.

Digital government takes many shapes and brings together a variety of fields, including Artificial Intelligence, Digital Inclusion, Open Data, Citizen Engagement, Cyber Security, and Digital Identity, to name a few. The individuals on this list represent the open and agile nature of digital government and highlight the myriad approaches that can be taken to build a slicker, smarter, more human-centred public sector.

Iurie Turcanu joined eGA since the organization had been established (2011), at that time the Electronic Government Center, being responsible for the developemnt of Government's centralized digital platforms. The main projects carried out under his leadership are: joint governmental technological platform (MCloud), governmental service for electronic payments (MPay), governmental platform for data exchange (MConnect), development of digital identity infrastructure, including mobile ID.
