Republic of Moldova at the Global ICT Leadership Forum
Deputy Prime Minister for Digitalization, Iurie Turcanu, and Director of the e-Governance Agency, Olga Tumuruc, participated today, 5 November 2021, in the Global ICT Leadership Forum, held in Seoul, Republic of Korea. The event brought together officials from several states to discuss global issues in the context of changes caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and the role of governments in accelerating the digital transformation.
Deputy Prime Minister for Digitalization Iurie Turcanu presented the priorities of the Moldovan Government in the field of digital transformation, the strategic vision on modernization of the public sector by rethinking and streamlining administrative processes, as well as actions aimed at continuous development of digital infrastructure for citizens and the private sector and their interaction with the government.
Iurie Turcanu highlighted the importance of reducing the digital divide and the need to create conditions for people to access and widely use digital solutions, especially during this period, when the pandemic severely affects the socio-economic situation in all the countries. In this regard, Moldovan authorities take measures for the development and implementation of initiatives that can contribute to increasing the level of knowledge and use of digital solutions in various fields of activity.
In the same vein, during the Forum, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Electronic Governance Agency of the Republic of Moldova and the National Information Society Agency (NIA) of the Republic of Korea, which provides for the modernization of the Digital Transformation Training Centre of the Republic Moldova, its technical equipment and ensuring its operational sustainability over the next four years. According to the Memorandum of Understanding signed in Seoul, the Republic of Moldova will receive assistance from the Republic of Korea, as one of the 8 winners out of 100 participating countries, as part of a grant programme implemented by the Korean Government to support innovation projects in the ICT sector.
The Global ICT Leadership Forum 2021 was organized by the Ministry of Science and Information and Communication Technology and the Korean National Information Society Agency and brought together representatives from such countries as: Republic of Korea, Egypt, Bhutan, Mongolia, Ghana, Malawi, Serbia, Republic of Moldova and others.
