Moldovan-Korean partnership for the development of digital culture
The Republic of Moldova will receive assistance from the Republic of Korea for the implementation of a digital literacy and continuing training project, as one of the 8 winners out of 100 participating countries, as part of a grant programme implemented by the Korean Government to support innovative projects in the ICT sector.
In this regard, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Electronic Governance Agency (EGA) of the Republic of Moldova and the National Information Society Agency (NIA) of the Republic of Korea. The document provides for the enhancement of cooperation between the signatory institutions through modernization of the Digital Transformation Training Centre of the Republic Moldova, its technical equipment and ensuring its operational sustainability over the next four years.
The event took place at the Global ICT Leadership Forum 2021, held on 4-5 November 2021, in Seoul, attended by Iurie Turcanu, Deputy Prime Minister for Digitalization and Olga Tumuruc, Director of the Electronic Governance Agency.
On this occasion, Iurie Turcanu thanked the Korean partners for their assistance to our country by supporting the activity of the Moldovan-Korean Information Access Centre, between 2012 and 2019 and stressed the importance of continuing the partnership to capitalize on the potential of bilateral cooperation. "Digitalization is one of the priority actions of the Government of the Republic of Moldova, and building the information society with a high level of digital culture and education is one of the main objectives in this regard", the Deputy Prime Minister added.
In her turn, Olga Tumuruc mentioned: “By signing the Memorandum of Understanding between EGA and NIA, we aim to develop a new concept of promoting digital culture in the Republic of Moldova, within the Centre for Innovation and Digital Training, which will provide for relevant conditions and state-of-the-art equipment for the implementation of educational and training programmes in the field of e-governance."
The Global ICT Leadership Forum 2021 was organized by the Ministry of Science and Information and Communication Technology and the Korean National Information Society Agency and brought together representatives from such countries as: Egypt, Bhutan, Mongolia, Ghana, Malawi, Serbia, and Republic of Moldova. At the meeting, the participating states discussed the global strategic actions on digital transformation in the post-COVID-19 era, the reduction of the digital divide caused by the pandemic, and how ICT leaders plan to accelerate digital transformation to create jobs with an advanced level of professional development and as an accelerator of economic growth.
