The trends of 2014 according to the national survey: the Internet increasingly accessed from the mobile phone

During the November-December 2014 period, the Center for Electronic Governance (CEG) conducted the third Annual National Survey “Perception, assimilation and support by the population of the e-government transformation in Moldova”.

The study, carried out by CBS-AXA, at the CEGrequest,covered urban and rural localities from all over the country and used data collected from a nationally representative sample of 3,005 people. The margin of error is ± 1.8%

According to the survey, 2014 registered an upward trend as respects to the level of households equipped with computers. Thus, the majority (67%) of the survey respondents have at least one computer at home.

The highest ranked on this matter were the young people aged between 16 and 25 years (83 percent of them said they had a computer at home).

Around 66% of the respondents said they have Internet connection, which shows an increase of about 4 p.p. The majority of respondents (87%), in the last 12 months, accessed the Internet from home. At the same time, a rise of approximately ¼ in the Internet use via the mobile phone is recorded.

The frequency of the Internet usage remains almost the same as registered in the previous studies.

The survey data also shows that 88 % of the respondents use the Internet for chatting, 82 % - for accessing the social networks. Approximately 70% of the respondents use the Internet for recreational purposes, read the news by means of the online publications, almost half of them are using the electronic mail and approximately 1/3 of the respondents use the Internet forcapacity building related activities – software downloading, training and education.

10% of respondents stated that they used the Internet to perform banking operations, while 6% to apply for certain services provided by the governmental institutions.
