Republic of Moldova ranks 12 out of 70 in the Open Data Index, conducted by the Open Knowledge Foundation (OKFN). Among the countries in the Open Government Partnership, Moldova ranks 10. Experts from Open Knowledge Foundation analyzed the legislation, the online access, updated at the state budget, budget executions, election results, the national map, national statistics, the trade register and the information about the slots of public transport.

The OKFN experts praise the Moldovan Government for the vision in opening data, while also urging the Government to continue working on improving the quality of information provided to the public.

"Moldova has made a great step in opening data. There are more open data in Moldova than in other European countries", says Milena Marin, coordinator at the School of Data from OKFN. According to her, the process of opening data does not stop here.

"It is very important not only that the data are opened, but also to be used and useful. People, citizens, journalists, the civil society must be empowered to use these data to solve real problems. There are countless examples around the world where open data brought economic benefits, transparency and fight against corruption", says Milena Marin.

Open data provide access to governmental information. Citizens thus have an extremely effective tool to better participate in governing the country.
