The Innovation Forum on Governance, event organized by the e-Government Centre in partnership with the State Chancellery and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), took place in Chisinau, on November 26-27.
The event reunited public sector practitioners from Sweden, Great Britain and Moldova, who shared their experience in public policy making and in redesign of public services by using innovations involving citizens (co-creation). One of the main objectives of the forum is presentation of the latest innovations in the public services that can contribute to public administration reform in the Republic of Moldova.
Social innovation laboratories have been presented as effective solutions in response to challenges in the context of mass-scale deployment of information technologies intended for democratisation of societies, as well as in response to crises and increased austerity measures in many countries.
MiLab (Social Innovation Laboratory) was launched in 2014 by the e-Government Centre and UNDP Moldova, to assist the Government in the cooperation and co-creation of solutions together with the citizens of the Republic of Moldova. Therefore, Milab participated in the optimisation of service which provides the monthly allowances for childcare, together with the National Office of Social Insurance, the redesign of a community police station in Chisinau, together with community people. The optimisation of the service for obtaining the license for export of products of animal origin is another project where Milab is now involved together with the Economic Council to the Prime Minister.
"Public institutions should learn to speak the same language, because the innovation is the language of the future, the language that can align the outdated institutional model to the needs of the 21st century citizens. An innovative Government means: a smart economy supporting our standard of living, a better use of public funds, involvement of citizens through social innovation, a healthier life”, stated Iurie Turcanu, the Director Executive of e-Government Centre.
The Innovation in Governance Forum 2015 was organized with the financial support of the Embassies of Great Britain and Sweden to Moldova, as well as the mobile operator Moldcell. The event was attended by 80 participants - officials from the Government of the Republic of Moldova, public officials, representatives of the civil society and of the development partners in our country. Next edition of the forum will be held in 2016.
