Chisinau, January 17, 2011. The E-Government Center launched the initiative “Information Technology in Government Forum”. The event was attended by partners from the private sector, IT managers from the public sector and foreign partners. They met to address issues related to the use of information technology in the public sector as well as solutions for management and protection of the identity data (“identity management”) and the capacity of information system to communicate and exchange data in a consistent and efficient way ("interoperability").

The goal of the event is to take over the experience of the private sector and of other countries, to study the successful practices on the use of technology in the public sector.

“Today we directly talk about the interoperability framework of the public sector and identity management: how we can use, connect, make compatible more information systems in the public sector in databases which are created so that the information in the various departments, ministries to communicate and we can deliver public services to citizens faster. We count very much on a very sustainable partnership with the private sector and on the fact that we can bring best practices and technologies in the public sector as soon as possible”, stated Stela Mocanu, executive director of the E-Government Center.

“Such events, which unite the public and private sectors around the conversations related to interoperability as well as identity and access management are crucial to ensure the proper foundation of e-Governance programs”, Arthur J. Riel, chief architect of information systems, from the World Bank.

The experts from FEDICT organization, Belgium presented the best practices of e-Government in Belgium.

“For FEDICT the most important are “building blocks”, such as the interoperability framework, identity or software services and tools which could be implemented in ministries. They can use these “building blocks” to quickly create new of e-Government applications for their customers: citizens and entrepreneurs. What we do is to try to make life easier for ICT developers in ministries, so that they can create new e-Government applications for citizens and entrepreneurs”, says Jan Deprest, chairman of FEDICT.

The event “Forum Information Technology in Government” is organized by the e-Government Center of the Republic of Moldova, in partnership with FEDICT organization from Belgium.

The next meeting of the Forum will be held in April, when the security of information in the public sector and cyber security will be discussed.

FEDICT - Federal Public Service for Information and Communication Technology was founded in Belgium in May 2001 and became operational in 2002. As the federal public service, FEDICT develops and implements the federal e-government strategy of Belgium.
