How to facilitate the citizens and business mobility in European Union and European Economic Area and how to ensure a better integration with the Digital Single Market, the alignment with the eIDAS regulatory framework and legal recognition of electronic signatures- were the topics discussed today, October 18, at the meeting of the E-Governance Agency's team with representatives of several public institutions.

The initiative to hold a working session on mutual recognition of qualified electronic signatures between Moldova and the European Union came up as a result of discussions with European officials who encouraged the Moldovan authorities to join to the European framework on electronic identification and trust services for electronic transactions as provisions of the eIDAS Regulation.

Representatives of the Security and Intelligence Service of the Republic of Moldova, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, the Secretariat of the Economic Council to the Prime Minister and the Information Technology and Cyber Security Service, participating in the discussions, agreed to submit a request to the European Commission from the Government of Moldova. Therefore, the necessary actions will be addressed to ensure the mutual recognition of qualified electronic signatures between Moldova and the European Union and to align legal framework with European standards in the field.

Recognition of digital signature certificates issued and facilitation of cross-border certification services are also provided in the Article no. 255 of the Association Agreement between the Republic of Moldova and the European Union. In this respect, the E-Governance Agency has initiated negotiations with Ukraine since the previous year.
