THE GOVERNMENT SAYS YES TO PUBLIC INFORMATION REUSE

The cabinet approved the draft law on the reuse of public sector information. According to it, the reuse of public sector information is "the use by individuals or legal entities of documents and information held by public authorities and institutions for commercial or non-commercial purposes, other than the initial purpose within the public task for which they were developed. The exchange of documents between public authorities and institutions within the fulfillment of public tasks is not a reuse".
The draft law also provides for creation of new products and services, as well as ensuring of fair and non-discriminatory conditions of use of documents held by public authorities and institutions.
The document regulates the relations arising in the reuse of documents held by public authorities and institutions for commercial or non-commercial purposes.
The beneficiaries of this draft law include various categories of the broad public, from students, teachers, journalists, to the civil society and business environment.
The draft law on the reuse of public sector information falls within the range of actions set out in the Government Action Plan for 2011-2014 on development and implementation of the legal framework for e-transformation and e-government based on the best international practices.
