The Government has approved two official documents aiming at promoting public data transparency and availability

The Government has approved two official documents aiming at promoting public data transparency and availability. The open government data concept sets the key principles to be observed by the institutions holding public data. The methodology for publishing open data explains the data publication process on the date.gov.md portal.
The Government of Moldova has committed to making public data available as part of the innovation effort, increasing transparency and fighting against corruption. The citizens have the right to access and reuse disaggregated data collected by the Government from different areas, as well as data related to the Government activity.
By the instrumentality of these documents, the Government has clearly set up the principles of open government data and those related to the reuse of public information. These principles shall guide the public institutions in the process of public information identification and publication towards the right to freely access and re-use these data.
The elucidation of these principles will contribute to the growth of government data available to users and provide valuable material for the development of innovations in the social and economic field, as well as promote transparency within the public sector, facilitating the fight against corruption.
The above-mentioned documents are part of the open government initiative (Open Government Partnership) to which the Government of Moldova has joined in April 2012. These documents contribute to the implementation of the Law and of the Government Decision regarding the public information reuse, transposing the EU Directive provisions to this topic. By adopting the open government data concept, the Government of Moldova aligns with the Open Data principles set forth in the Charter of the G8 countries.
Besides the information and training sessions designed for the civil servants with the purpose of making them properly understand the principles of open data and those related to the public information reuse, workshops for journalists, developers and citizens will be organized in collaboration the civil society and development partners. Within these workshops, different methods of analysis, visualization and interpretation of data will be presented and taught.
