The Experience of the Republic of Moldova in Opening the Government Data Presented at the Opening Up Development

The experience of the Republic of Moldova in the Open Data field was presented within an international workshop “Opening Up Development”, organized by the World Bank. The event was attended by ten countries. Among these Kenya, Albania, Honduras, Macedonia, Rwanda and Ukraine. The participants exchanged their experience in opening government data.
The representatives of those 10 countries discussed about the role of citizens in the development of open government data practices; they being encouraged to express their need for public information, while government institutions to take responsibility to meet the citizens’ demands.
Free access to public government data in the Republic of Moldova is one of the initiatives of the state authorities in e-Transformation process.
Access to open data is an innovative initiative within governments, civil society and information and communication technologies communities (ICTs) around the world. The action was launched to bring government institutions closer to citizens, thus ensuring transparency and efficiency in decision making process.
Within the platform “Free access to government public data" in the Republic of Moldova was created a one-stop desk that provides citizens and businesses with access to all public data and can be accessed at http://date.gov.md.
The International Conference „Opening Up Development” was organized by the Open Data Innovations Network (ODIN), along with Open Development Technology Alliance (ODTA).
