Ensuring security in the process of delivering electronic public services

Today, October 3, within the context of the cyber security month, the E-Government Centre hosted the ”Ensuring security in the process of delivering electronic public services” event attended by experts from the e-Governance Academy headquartered in Estonia and Omega Trust Company from Romania.
The Estonian colleagues shared their experience on the X-Road platform through which the state institutions exchange data. In the cyber security context, the emphasis was placed on data access rules and on the user, who may be part of a public institution or may be an ordinary citizen.
In Estonia, since 2001 so far, approximately 2,000 services from over 900 institutions and databases were connected, the number of data requests currently exceeding 300 million.
The Center for Electronic Governance, in its turn, presented the MConnect platform which secures the exchange of data and which has been developed based on the Estonian model. An electronic service needs a centralized infrastructure which is built at Government level and requires enhanced security measures.
The electronic services need a solid security infrastructure as to operate 24/24 and to allow the user to perform any transaction, at any time, in complete safety.
At the same time, during the event, Fiscservinform noted the role of the information security within the tax administration processes, while Omega Trust focused on the current situation and on the cyber security perspectives.
