Electronic platforms are among the best solutions to improve the justice system in Moldova

The e-Governance Agency was represented by the Deputy Director Gheorghe Ursoi, as a member of the jury, at "Hackjustice: An Access to Justice Hackathon". The event included two stages and aimed at identifying the challenges related to the efficiency and access to justice and developing modern technological solutions to streamline the justice system in the Republic of Moldova, with the help of legal specialists, software developers, civil society representatives, academia and other stakeholders. Other members of the jury were Victor Guzun, Expert, Vitalie Esanu, CTO Privesc.eu, Diana Scobioala, Director of the National Institute of Justice and Galina Climov, Executive Director of AOPD. They chose the best solutions proposed by the participants and nominated the winners.
As a total, 40 young people participated in the contest; they developed innovative IT solutions to improve access to justice, especially for men and women in vulnerable and marginalized groups.
The first stage, IDEATHON, took place on 12 and 13 June, while the second one, HACKATHON, on 26 and 27 June. In the first stage, the participants had an active discussion about the barriers in the access to justice, including: difficulties in defending property rights, the complexity of legal language, lack of an integrated mechanism for assessing the risks of corruption in legislation, lack of trust in justice, as well as poor communication between representatives of the justice sector and the media, etc.
The majority of participants agreed on the development of new platforms and apps that could remove these barriers. The solutions proposed by young people participating in the contest included: developing online platforms for access to legal services for people with disabilities; developing an application for denunciation of corruption of the type of virtual integrity warning; creating a database of judicial practice with an optimized search engine based on keywords, etc.
On 27 June, the participants presented the products developed by them, and the independent jury selected 3 best teams. The winners received awards in the form of a certificate for technical equipment.
"I am glad to be part of this wonderful event and to find out that the participants know about and use the electronic platforms and services developed by EGA. I encourage young people to actively contribute to improving the field of justice and I invite them to the Agency to participate in the development of technology", said Gheorghe Ursoi.
