On the International Day of Older Persons, the Director of e-Governance Agency, Olga Tumuruc, participated in the "Active aging and digitalization of the older persons" conference. The event aimed at familiarizing the older people with the technologies and the opportunities provided by them, as well as promoting the inter-generational dialogue by involving young people in the development of digital skills of the older people.

"We need to start this process of building the digital skills and reducing the digital divide in various ways: through policies, information, effective communication, popularization, using all the possibilities that technology gives us. Digital competence means the correct and efficient use of information and digital content, paying attention to what digital identity, security and reputation mean", Olga Tumuruc said.

During the discussions, the organizers expressed their interest in a partnership with EGA and offered some suggestions on developing applications focused on the needs of accessibility and inclusion of the older people in the digital society, while mentioning previous positive experiences they had in collaboration with the e-governance team.

EGA Director also stressed the importance of connection between the generations, in order for the digital culture built among children to ensure a natural transfer of knowledge to the older people, through an organic interaction with multiple benefits for all those involved in this process.

The event was attended by members of the Government, representatives of various public and private institutions from both the country and abroad, as well as project beneficiaries, who shared their experience of online interaction, talking about how these experiences changed their lives.

The event was organized as part of the UNFPA program promoting intergenerational dialogue by involving young people in the development of digital skills of the older people. The program, which engages over 300 seniors and 85 volunteers from 15 localities, was launched in 2020 and continued in 2021, and is run in partnership with the Moldcell Foundation, the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection and HelpAge International.
