Dirk Schuebel: I hope that soon Moldova will become the second Estonia in terms of electronic governance

Chisinau, October 15th, 2012. The "Information Security in the Government Week" started in the Republic of Moldova. The event, organized by the e-Government Center, is held under the slogan " Be Safe , Be At Home In Cyber Space " It includes several activities addressed to civil servants, companies, civil society and citizens.

"Information Security in the Government Week" aims to promote the concept of information security in the implementation of the Program for Technological Modernization of the Government and is occasioned by "The European Month of Cyber security "(Cyber Security Month), a pilot project, organized for the first time in the European Union.

The Executive Director of the e-Government Center, Stela Mocan, stated during the official launch of the event, that information security is of great importance in the process of Government e-Transformation: "We want citizens to trust e-Government. Through our actions we want to implement the objectives of the e-Transformation agenda. In the digital age, when communicating via the latest communication technologies, data security is extremely important. On January 1st, 2014 we plan to have a paperless government. We will apply high safety standards in the communication between authorities and citizens", said Stela Mocan.

According to Roman Cazan, Deputy General Secretary of the Government, the Moldovan authorities have already taken specific actions to improve the level of information security: "Since March the State Chancellery, with the support of the e-Government Center, are implementing the document management information system "Sigedia" that will improve the security of information flow across the Government. Data exchange will be made only through secure channels. We intend to initiate other activities that will lead to higher data security", said Cazan.

Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Moldova Dirk Schuebel reiterated the EU support for the implementation of the e-Transformation agenda in our country: "I am very glad that Moldova has launched this week. The action is very important for the country's integration into the European Union cyberspace. I am glad that the government in Chisinau synchronizes their efforts with the EU. We are ready to offer our support for this initiative for information security consisting in the participation of European experts in the workshops."

Dirk Schuebel also said that the European Union will continue to work with the Government to improve the Executive and provide new opportunities in cyberspace. "The Moldovan government is implementing an ambitious agenda in terms of e-Governance, an agenda that increases its credibility. I hope that Moldova will soon become the second Estonia in terms of electronic governance ", said the head of the EU Delegation.

According to the Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Technology, Dona Școla, the event launched is an example of good coordination between the government, the private sector and  citizens. "Now that we are in the digital age, we dependent on systems and applications. Security issues are increasingly important. When it comes to information security, we understand that the public confidence in state institutions and the private sector is very important. Communication is the key in developing this trust", said Dona Școla.

During the "Information Security in the Government Week" event a Legal Clinic will be launched for the first time - a platform for debate on the legal aspects of electronic governance. The week will also include,  thematic round tables and visits to the civil servants offices to explain the importance of information security.

The week will conclude with another premiere - a meeting between the specialists from the Electronic Government Centre of with youngsters passionate about information technologies.

Experts from Estonia, Great Britain, Israel, and USA will participate at the activities of the "Information Security in the Government Week"

The objectives of the "European cyber security Month" are to provide information on the information security by best practices and competitions, raise awareness about risk and change perceptions about cyber threats.
