Every year, on 9 May, the European Community celebrates Europe Day, an important day designed to promote peace, unity and solidarity among Europeans. The event is celebrated in various forms in most Member States of the European Union and in the neighbouring countries. This year, the events organised in Moldova to celebrate the Europe Day are held online throughout the month of May. The public will have access to shows, activities and useful information through online platforms, TV and radio. The programme organised by the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Moldova contains an agenda full of activities including the New Digital Age and Innovation, a special event discussing EU support for the digital and ICT sector, digitalization in education, business and, last but not least, the opportunities in this field for those who want to pursue a career in ICT. Digitization is a topic of highest importance in the list of EU policies.

Recently, the Council of the European Union approved the Digital Europe 2021-2027 Programme. The programme will stimulate digital transformation by providing funding for the implementation of state-of-the-art technologies in the most important areas, each with its own budget, including: high performance computing, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and confidence, advanced digital skills, implementation and optimal use of digital capacities, and interoperability.

With a budget of more than 7.5 billion Euro, the Digital Europe Programme is part of the EU's intensive effort to make the most of digitalisation for the benefit of its societies and economies, to increase its technological autonomy and enhance competitiveness. The programme aims at building state-of-the-art, secure and high-performance digital services for all citizens across the Union.

This programme complements a number of other programmes that support digital transformation, such as Horizon Europe, Europe’s Digital Decade 2030 and others.

The EU's digital ambitions for 2030 focus on four key elements: Digitally skilled citizens and highly skilled digital professionals - By 2030, at least 80% of all adults should have basic digital skills; Secure, performant and sustainable digital infrastructures - By 2030, all EU households should have gigabit connectivity and all populated areas should be covered by 5G;  Digital transformation of businesses - By 2030, three out of four companies should use cloud computing services, big data and artificial Intelligence; Digitalisation of public services - By 2030, all key public services should be available online;  all citizens will have access to their e-medical records.

The e-Governance Agency joins the EU's objectives in promoting digital transformation and activities to celebrate #Europe202021 and supports solidarity, democracy and European values.
