Chisinau, November 6, 2013 – The members of the Cabinet of Ministers approved today the Government Decision regarding the implementation of Law no. 305 of 26 September 2012, on the reuse of public sector information.

The Government Decision sets conditions for accessing and reusing the information in the public sector, forcing public institutions to provide information about the collected public data. Citizens will thus have greater access to public information in open formats and automated processed and they can reuse them for non-commercial and commercial purposes.

The open access to public information plays an important role in the development of new services based on innovative means of combining and using information, while also contributing to stimulating economic growth and promoting social engagement. Permission to reuse the documents held by public bodies adds value for both the users and for society in general, by promoting transparency and accountability. Through this system, people can communicate with public institutions, offering suggestions and improving thus the quality of the collected and published information.

By implementing this Law, the Government of Republic of Moldova aligns to the EU efforts in the reuse of public sector information and open government data. The normative document is linked to the European Union Directive 2013/37/EU, which establishes a minimum set of rules governing the reuse, as well as practical ways to facilitate the reuse of public sector documents.
