During five months after the beginning of digitization of the archive of civil status documents, one million documents have been digitized, are available to employees of the Civil Status Service (CSS) and are stored in the Governmental Cloud that provides a high level security and availability.

Digitization involves scanning, entry of metadata, quality control and transfer to MCloud.
The archive of the Civil Status Service contains a total of 20 million documents, some of which have been digital from the start. 13 million documents from the CSS archive need to be digitized, of which 4 million are in the process of digitization and the other 9 million documents will be digitized starting this summer.

The digitization of the CSS archive is carried out at the same time with the digitization of services provided by the CSS. Thus, three civil status e-services have been recently launched. Documents covered by those three civil status e-services are as follows: duplicate of the birth certificate, duplicate of the marriage certificate, duplicate of the certificate of divorce; duplicate of the death certificate, extract from the birth certificate, extract from the marriage certificate, extract from the certificate of divorce; extract from the death certificate. Services can be accessed at: www.servicii.gov.md/ssc

The digitization of the civil status archive will increase the speed of service delivery and will boost the development of new governmental e-services.

The objective of the project on digitization of the CSS archive is to increase the efficiency of the Civil Status Service through the implementation of modern technological solutions in order to improve the quality of government services provided to Moldovan citizens. The project will be implemented in two years, during which 4 million civil status documents will be digitized and an information system will be developed to manage the digitized documents.
