National Payments Council, about the MPAY electronic payment service and its related performances
On March 28, the Center for Electronic Governance participated within the National Payments Council meeting, professional forum set up to promote cashless payments and sustain the alignment of payment services to the market demand and to the highest European standards.
The purpose of the meeting was to discuss such topics as: adverse effect of banks' pricing policies on promoting retail payments or methods of extinguishment of tax obligations. Modalities of ensuring confidentiality within the authorized exchange of tax information process have also been brought into discussion.
A particular attention was paid to the MPay electronic payment service and the achievements it has attained since the launch so far. The steps to be taken towards the MPay electronic payment service by all financial institutions have been listed.
For the purpose of improving the service, but also extending its use area, a number of amendments and additions to the Government Decision no. 329, of May 28, 2012 establishing Governmental Electronic Payment Service “Mpay” were discussed.
Since the MPay launch, which took place on September 17, 2013, over 70,000 transactions / payments for various governmental services have been processed. The number of applications processed daily by MPay service is growing, which denotes a constant interest in cashless payments. The authorities intend to ensure that all services provided by the state could be paid through this system by the year 2020.
