Chisinau, September 20, 2011. On Monday, the e-Government Center, in partnership with the World Bank, organized a workshop on public-private partnerships (PPP) in Information and Communication Technology (ICT). The representatives of the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology, Ministry of Finance and Agency for Public Property attended the workshop.

Workshop facilitators, Frank Leyman, Manager of International Relations at FEDICT Belgium and Iurie Turcanu, Chief Technology Officer at the e-Government Center, presented information on the importance of building public-private partnerships in the ICT sector and the benefits offered by such partnerships. Best international practices were shared and examples were provided to visualize the benefits of implementing PPP in the ICT sector.

"A public-private partnership is an arrangement between a government and a private (non-government) entity, whereby the private sector provides infrastructure elements and services that are traditionally provided by the public sector. The ultimate goal of PPP is to get more "value for money" than offered through traditional options. In the end, all parties will benefit", said Frank Leyman, Manager of International Relations, FEDICT.

"Public-private partnerships are a perfect way to outsource public sector products and services to the private sector, while keeping the public sector management. As far as ICT sector is concerned – the competence for its development in the private sector is much higher, thus, all of us will benefit from such a partnership", said Iurie Turcanu, Chief Technology Officer, e-Government Center.
