Electronic payments provide considerable advantages for a modern, transparent and dynamic society and their benefits reflect on all the stakeholders involved in a transaction, starting from regular consumer to companies, banks and even state institutions.

Currently, governments become more active in encouraging electronic payment systems, aiming first and most of all to facilitate citizens' access to public services.

 MPay e-government service is an example in this respect. It was launched in September 2013 and has currently registered about 2.5 million transactions, the value of which is over one billion lei.

MPay [6]  provides the possibility to pay by any legal payment means available in Moldova.

• bank cards;

• payment terminals;

• e-banking systems;

• cash payment (in case of cash payments, citizens can apply to banks that are  connected to MPay service or to the offices of Posta Moldovei).

As a reminder, MPay provides the citizens with the opportunity of paying online the real estate tax without having to go to the bank and wait in endless lines. Paying this tax by 30 June, the citizens will benefit from a 15% discount, provided for by the tax legislation. To pay the tax, please access mpay.gov.md, and select real estate tax payment.
